44% of honey bee colonies were lost last year. People across Indiana are working to support the bee population with hives in their backyard. Not only do these hives support the eco-system, but they can provide added benefits as well.
Our experts discussed everything from the supposed effect of cell phone towers on bees to personal hives. They agreed that the easiest way to get to learn more about how to start your own hive or where your honey comes from is to go to your local beekeeping club.
Indiana Department of Resources Chief Apiary Inspector, Kathleen Prough explains that you don't need to have your own hive to support local bees. She says you can also grow your garden with plants that will help build bigger colonies.
