This spring, a law was enacted in the Indiana Senate that makes it legal as of July 1 to transport a handgun without a license. Meanwhile, Senate Enrolled Act 292 was also signed, prohibiting local government bodies from enacting stricter gun laws than firearms statutes already set by the state. While praising this legislation, saying it promotes individual freedom of choice, many believe it could be lead to dangerous consequences.
This week on Noon Edition, we spoke with Senator Jim Tomes, who co-authored the bills; Brent Weil, Chairman of the Southwest Indiana Friends of the NRA; Monroe County Sheriff James Kennedy; and the Reverend Charles Ellis, Executive Director of the Ten Point Coalition, the Indianapolis faith-based anti-violence group, to discuss Indiana's recent firearm legislation and its implications.
