Midwifery And The Rise Of Home Births

A study conducted by the Center for Diseases and Prevention shows that from 2004 to 2008, the number of home births increased by 20 percent, and now more than ever, women are hiring midwives for constant care during their pregnancy, rather than seeking out a doctor's consultation.

This week on Noon Edition, we sat down with birth assistant and certified doula Molly Mendota, homebirth midwife Mary Helen Ayres, and Women's Health OB/GYN physician Dr. John Labban. We talked about why people are increasingly going through the pregnancy process at home instead of at a hospital or in the care of a doctor -- and whether such a decision is safe.

Noon Edition airs live, Fridays at 12:06.
