Some argue that there are too many people in the Monroe County jail and it is creating inhumane conditions. This week, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office recommended a one-year extension to the cap on the jail population and are waiting on approval from a federal judge. The jail has 248 beds and the cap is set at 278 people.
