Reusing And Recycling Efforts Throughout The State

As new students move in to colleges like Indiana University, other students move out — and they don't always bring their stuff with them. The Hoosier to Hoosier Community Sale, happening this Saturday, is an annual event put on by IU and the city of Bloomington to keep as much of that stuff as possible from ending up in a dump.

It's one of many efforts across Indiana to repurpose unwanted scrap. But according to some research the state hasn't performed well – a report this year from WalletHub.com ranks Indiana 47th out of 50 when it comes to "Eco-Friendly Behaviors."

This week on Noon Edition we spoke to leaders from around the country about what communities are doing, and what more could be done, to improve recycling programs.

Our guests:

  • Jacqui Bauer, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Bloomington
  • Carey Hamilton, Executive Director of the Indiana Recycling Coalition
  • Alec Cooley, Director of Recycling Programs at Keep America Beautiful
  • Noon Edition airs every Friday at 12:06 p.m.
