Indiana Could Soon Pass A Hands-Free Driving Law

The proposed law states, "a person may not hold or use a telecommunications device in the driver's seat of a motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is in motion unless the device is used in conjunction with hands free or voice operated technology.

Last month, a bill to ban Indiana drivers from holding cell phones while behind the wheel passed a House committee.

Several people who had lost loved ones to distracted driving spoke at the committee.

Indiana Republican State Rep. Holli Sullivan authored the bill.

Right now, 20 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands prohibit all drivers from using hand-held cellphones while driving.

The next step for Bill 1070 is to be approved by the Senate.
