Griffy Lake Plans New Pier To Increase Access For Fishing

Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department officials are looking to build a new pier that will allow for more access to Griffy Lake for fishing.

City Natural Resources Manager Steve Cotter says the park has four popular trails that are difficult to get to because visitors have to walk along the road.

"The crossing that will go from the parking lot to the westide of the causeway where the road passes through park will provide safe access not only to those that want to fish on the new fishing pier, but eventually to a pathway that will take people from the parking lot to the north shore trail without walking along the road," he says.

Cotter says plans to take the walkway to the north shore haven’t been determined yet.

The plan to build a pier near the boathouse was first proposed in the 1984 Griffy Lake Master Plan.

Cotter says they expect to have the walkway and pier up and running by 2019.
