The National Center for Genome Analysis Support at Indiana University is receiving a $962,613 grant from the National Science Foundation.

Researchers say genome research is becoming more important for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The center provides bioinformatics consulting, education and outreach programs on genome analysis, as well as long-term archival storage for genome biologists.

Genome data has become cheaper and easier to come by, says Research Technologies Manager Tom Doak. That means more and more people are working with it.

Doak says the three-year grant will help the center assist researchers all over the country.

"NFS is paying us to give help away," he says. "Which is really a marvelous job. Being paid to help people."
