Incumbent Trey Hollingsworth will continue holding the 9 th Congressional seat after beating out Democratic candidate Liz Watson Tuesday night.
The Republican says he spoke with roughly 30,000 Hoosiers over the phone ahead of the election. He says those phone calls were to find out what Hoosiers cared about.
“What I continue to hear from Hoosiers is they want to hear from me directly," Hollingsworth says. "They wanted to hear me talk about the issues that matter most to them, but more importantly, for me to listen to them and make sure that I’m carrying their message back to Washington.”

Hollingsworth also says he sees Republican Mike Braun’s win in Indiana’s contentious race for Senate as a sign of Hoosiers’ support for Trump. He says he’s excited to work with Braun moving forward.
“What they recognize is they want a change in Washington,” Hollingsworth says. “And they want a partner that will work with Trump in order to get more of the change they’ve seen in the past year.”
Hollingsworth says he plans to prioritize a reform Washington, D.C. moving forward. He says he wants to create an environment that works for Indiana and Hoosier values, including term limits and anti-lobbying measures.
Watson gave a concession speech at her watch party in Bloomington.
“You knew the odds were against us, but you also knew it was a fight worth fighting,” Watson said. “And for that, I thank you.”

We reached out to Hollingsworth multiple times to schedule a debate and interview, but never heard back from his campaign.
Hollingsworth defeated Shelli Yoder in 2016 in what many thought would be a much closer race.
