The City of Columbus is finalizing its purchase of the FairOaks Mall in partnership with Columbus Regional Health later today.
Columbus is pitching in 75 percent of the $5.9 million purchase, with the hospital covering the remaining portion.
City officials hope to make the mall a community recreation and sports tourism complex that would provide health and wellness opportunities for Columbus residents.
Mary Ferdon is one of the directors of the FairOaks Community Development Corporation, the body that will own and oversee the property. She says they are going to reach out to the public as the project moves along.
“They’ll be member of the community, the city, and Columbus regional health on the design committee,” She says.
Ferdon says the input process will take up all of 2019. She says the FairOaks Development Corporation will honor all current contracts so retailers in the mall can continue at least through the end of next year.
