Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton is set to give his annual State of the City Address Thursday. A local Black Lives Matter group shut down last year’s address over the city’s decision to purchase an armored vehicle.

Hamilton says tonight’s address will include a video presentation with community faces and voices.

“We just finished our bicentennial year so it’s particularly interesting time to look back, and I guess you can say we’re starting our next century so it’s a time to think ahead of what’s coming next,” Hamilton says.

This is Hamilton’s fourth State of the City Address. County Commissioner Amanda Barge is challenging him in the May primary.

The address is scheduled for 7 p.m. and is open to the public at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
