After more than a year of construction, the Bloomington city officials and developers are celebrating the grand opening of B-Line Heights, the city’s latest affordable housing project.
Nearly all of the units serve families at or below the median income. The apartments range in price from $625 for a one bedroom to $845 for a three bedroom.
Mayor John Hamilton says that Bloomington has the most expensive housing market in Indiana.
“It’s a problem we’re addressing in lots of different ways, but one of the ways is getting 34 new units of rental apartments right downtown,” Hamilton says.
Developers say the north Rogers Street location was chosen because of its proximity to bus lines, commerce, schools, and retailers.
Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority is awarding $750,000 in annual tax credits after they complete training and work with experts on environment, energy, and transportation services.
B-Line Heights Property Manager Sarah Owen says some residents have already been approved.
