Scheid Diesel Implements New Security, Shorter Event For This Year's Extravaganza

The 2019 Scheid Diesel Extravaganza (SDX) in Vigo County will be only two days long this year.

Held at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, the event usually takes place over three days and brings together diesel truck enthusiasts from across the country. This year’s extravaganza takes place Aug. 23 and 24.

Scheid Diesel Service Co. Director of Marketing Melissa Kellett says the purpose of the change is to keep people on the fairgrounds.

“We thought two days with more events would keep people on the premises more and out of the community,” she says.

SDX is known for its unofficial, often raucous after parties. In 2017, police arrested more than 200 people over three days on alcohol and drug-related charges.

Kellett says Scheid held an official after party each night of the event at Show-Me’s Bar And Grill last year, and will again this year. This will also be the second year the company tasks volunteers with cleanup of the properties around the fairgrounds the mornings after late-night events and parties.

She says Scheid is also partnering with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office to provide security at the event.

SDX features two days of contests, truck pulls, tractor pulls and drag racing, among other activites.

Scheid’s website says it expects more than 15,000 attendees this year. The company has locations in Terre Haute, Lafayette and Effingham, Illinois.
