Bartholomew County Murder Suspect In Custody

The lone suspect in the Waynesville murders is back in Bartholomew County.

Major Todd Noblitt with the Bartholomew County Sheriff‘s Department says deputies drove to Marion County Thursday afternoon to pick up 55-year-old Samual Sallee. He was taken into custody at 1:30 p.m. By 2:25 p.m. Sallee was back in Bartholomew County, where he was read the charges facing him by Sheriff Mark Gorbett.

Sallee is facing four counts of murder from  May 11. He is accused of shooting and killing 53-year-old Katherine Burton, 39-year-old Thomas W. Smith, 41-year-old Aaron T. Cross and 41-year-old Shawn L. Burton, all of Columbus.

Katherine Burton also sustained several stab wounds.

The bodies were found that night by Katherine Burton‘s son. Authorities indicated the killings may have been drug-related.

Sallee will next be evaluated and classified by Bartholomew County Corrections staff and held in the jail without bond. No word on possible court dates, though his arraignment will likely be done via video conference.
