The City of Indianapolis will not be hosting the Democratic or Republican National Conventions in 2016, according to city officials.
The DNC sent out a letter Tuesday asking 15 cities, including Indy, to submit hosting bids.
However, Marc Lotter, spokesman for Mayor Greg Ballard says the city won‘t be submitting bids for either convention.
"Unfortunately we have a number of other conventions and other major events already booked," Lotter says.
The city is hosting the NCAA Men‘s Final Four and NCAA Women‘s Olympics Trials among other events.
Lotter says the city just wouldn‘t have the required hotel space not to mention millions of dollars in private funding needed for the bids.
In the meantime, Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody says he would still like to meet with VisitIndy and other officials to check the feasibility of the city hosting the Democratic convention.
Zody says the Indiana Democratic Party has an interest in how the city moves forward on the issue.
