Agencies Receive $3 Million For HIV Services

Health agencies around southern and central Indiana are receiving more than $3 million to expand HIV services.

The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis will split $3.15 million in grant awards among agencies in Indianapolis, Evansville, Fort Wayne and Bloomington.

Most of that will go toward outreach programs, including Positive Link at Indiana University Health.

"We believe, as the national strategy has informed us, that we can end the transmission of HIV in this generation through providing expanded services to people who are HIV positive, and by reducing their viral load," says Health Foundation President and CEO Betty Wilson.

Wilson says the majority of the money was raised in Marion County.

The largest single award is $1.3 million. It's going to Indianapolis' Damien Center, the largest AIDS service organization in Indiana. The money will allow the center to obtain psychiatric and behavioral health services, dental services and an employment specialist to help HIV positive clients find work.
