Gov. Pence Vetoes Public Records Fee Bill

Governor Mike Pence finished up the work of the 2015 legislative session by vetoing one last bill. It's a measure that would have allowed government agencies to charge a fee for public record searches.

State law bars government bodies from charging fees for public records searches under most instances.

But a bill approved this session would have allowed agencies to charge search fees of up to $20 if the search took a government worker longer than two hours.

In vetoing the measure, Pence says, in his words, "the cost of public records should never be a barrier to the public's right to know."
