Health care providers volunteering their services for free will have civil immunity under a bill Gov. Mike Pence signed into law Tuesday.
HEA 1145 will apply to physicians and other professionals such as podiatrists and optometrists who perform routine medical, eye and dental treatments.
"The medical health shield bill allows licensed medical professionals the necessary assurance to continue volunteering and serving in our communities," the governor said in a statement.
The law will take effect July 1.
