Messel Prosecution To Judge: Allow Criminal Past As Evidence

The prosecution in the case of Daniel Messel, who is accused of killing an IU student in the spring, is asking for a hearing to listen to evidence about Messel's criminal history.

Messel, who is charged with murderin the death of 22-year-old Hannah Wilson, has a record of violence. During a hearing Tuesday the prosecution asked Judge Judith Stewart to consider admitting Messel's criminal history as evidence.

Stewart declined to say when she would issue an opinion. If she does decide to admit the evidence the hearing would be closed to the public.

A pre-trial hearing in the case is scheduled for May 16. The trial will begin in June.
