The Bloomington planning commission approved site plans for two residential buildings last night.
One is a two-unit townhome with a total of nine bedrooms. It would sit near the intersection of 6 th and Dunn.
Architect Doug Bruce says he likes the idea of buildings that use modern materials and represent the present day.
"You want to save what's truly old, but at the same time, if everything we build today looks like it was designed and built in 1930, what happens in 100 years for buildings that should represent this time and this era," says Bruce.
The second site will have mixed uses and can house up to 500 residents in five buildings located near 3 rd and Patterson.
Preliminary site work has begun, and one of the developers says it will be about six weeks before construction goes vertical. Developers are hopeful that property will be open by July of 2018.
Both buildings will need construction permits before they can go up.
