A large group of people experiencing homelessness is no longer camped out in the 200 block of Kirkwood Avenue in Bloomington after police responded to the area Thursday night.
The Bloomington Police Department arrested two individuals on drug charges and another for disorderly conduct Thursday evening. As part of these arrests, Police say officers broke up any groups involved with criminal activity in the area.
The encampment formed as the result of increased police patrols in People's Park. By mid-day Friday, city employees were cleaning off the sidewalk.
Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams said earlier this week it not illegal to congregate on city sidewalks. He said in a written statement Friday the department hasn't made any change in downtown policing policies.
