The future of the Bloomington's Whole Foods Market '365' store remains unclear after Amazon's $13.7 billion definitive merger agreement with Whole Foods.
The store was set to open August 1, but Whole Foods representatives later indicated that the opening date is uncertain, saying in an emailed statement that there currently isn't a definitive opening date.
The store is slated to open in College Mall's newly constructed Boulevard, and although there is a sign in the mall saying that the store is coming soon, there is no mention of the store on Simon Mall's store directory. This adds to rumors that another store will open instead of the proposed Whole Foods Market 365 location. However, Bloomington is still listed as a future location on Whole Foods' website.
According to a Whole Foods news release, all Whole Foods Market stores will continue to operate under the Whole Foods Market Brand, but it's unclear how the merger will affect Whole Foods Market '365' stores.
There are currently nine open Whole Foods Market '365' locations across the country and eight still set to open. Of those eight, stores in Houston and Toledo have already experienced delays.
A spokesperson for Simon Malls declined to comment for this story.
