INDOT Lays Out Potential Impact Of I-69 From Martinsville To Indy

A new analysis says the final stretch of I-69 from Martinsville to Indianapolis will cost around $1.5 billion.

The Indiana Department of Transportation released the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the project Friday. It outlines what route the 26 miles of interstate will take and how the community could be impacted.

I-69 will follow the existing path of State Road 37 until it connects with I-465 in Indianapolis, but some of the details regarding interchanges are still up in the air.

INDOT is considering two layouts for an interchange at Southport Road, which would impact how many homes and businesses are affected by the project.

The state still has to secure funding for construction, which INDOT expects to take place from 2020 to 2026. The agency will host meetings in Indianapolis and Martinsville next month to get public input on the plans.

I-69 Section 5 from Bloomington to Martinsville is under construction and, after several delays, is expected to be complete by May 31, 2018. Construction was originally supposed to finish by Oct. 2016.
