Portion Of Yellowwood Road In Brown Co. Closed For Construction

A portion of Yellowwood Road will be closed for the next 120 days as the Indiana Department of Transportation continues work on a controversial road project.

INDOT is spending more than $4.5 million to build a new bridge over Salt Creek and realign Yellowwood Road. The road will be closed between State Road 46 and Yellowwood Lake Road during construction.

The project dates back to 1990, when a group of residents called Friends of Yellowwood collected signatures on petitions opposing the project. But, INDOT says the improvements are necessary to mitigate flooding, improve erosion control and allow better access to the state forest.

The next phase of construction is expected to start in July, which will span 2.9 miles from Yellowwood Lake Road at the north end of the lake to Lanam Ridge Road.
