Columbus officials say a section of People Trail will be shut down through the end of summer.
The Columbus Parks and Recreation Department closed about a 10-block section of the multi-use trail this week.
Director of Columbus Parks and Recreation Mark Jones says the closure is to ensure safety while the nearby Newbern Bridge is under construction.
"People have fallen off the sidewalk and had some accidents, so that's definitely a huge safety concern and part of our bike and pedestrian plan that the city has put together over the years," Jones says.
Jones says the section of the trail is expected to re-open by October, when Newbern Bridge construction is complete.
