Some Indiana school corporations are supporting their teachers who plan to participate in the Red for Ed Rally Day at the Statehouse on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Vigo County schools are scheduling the day as a snow day, making it up on their first snow makeup day on Feb. 14.

Director of Communications for Vigo County School Corporation Bill Riley says that they are in full support of the cause and their teachers’ efforts to exercise free speech.

“We respect our teachers for the things they’re fighting for on November nineteenth,” Riley says. “We believe that our teachers deserve a fair salary.”

Bartholomew County schools will operate as normal. In a statement, Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts says school will remain in session as long as they are able maintain a safe and secure learning environment for students.

Given the number of teacher's and staff members who have requested personal days off for the rally, Superintendent Dr. Jim Roberts released another statement Tuesday that BCSC will not have school on Nov. 19th.

Brown County School's have set a plan in place so that their school's remains in session.

BCSC has provided each of their schools one professional leave day for teacher's and the Educators Association named one teacher to participate in Tuesday's rally. For any other educators who want to participate, personal days can be taken.

Superintendent Laura Hammack says that because they approached this in a proactive way, that no issues have came up.

"We're feeling good about students being able to have a typical school day and also meeting the goals of having educators participate next Tuesday as well," Hammack says.

Richard Bean Blossom announced Thursday that classes will be closed on Tuesday.

On Friday, Fort Wayne, the largest district in the state, also announced they would be closed.
