Bennett: Live PD Coming Back To Terre Haute This Year

The Terre Haute Police Department will be back on the A&E Network program Live PD before the end of the year, according to the city's mayor.

Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said in a Facebook post Tuesday that the city’s contract with Live PD is good through Oct. 7, 2020.

Bennett said he was surprised last month to hear reports of the NACCP asking the city to stop the contract with the show which follows on-duty police officers. Sylvester Edwards, president of the Terre Haute NAACP says they have reached out to Bennett’s office but have not heard back.

"We have given them ample opportunity to talk, so far they are doing what they have to do and we will be doing what we have to do, just to make sure people’s rights whether civil or human rights are not taken away," Edwards says.

A letter from the Terre Haute branch of the NAACP says the show exploits residents at their most vulnerable time while conveying guilt prematurely. Bennett said the recent break in filming was scheduled and not related to the issues brought up by the NAACP.

He says he is anticipating the show’s return to Terre Haute this year.
