Columbus residents may now raise as many as four chickens in their backyard. The new restrictions come after city council members voted on a proposed amendment to the city's animal ordinance Tuesday night.
The amendment was a compromise from a ten member citizen committee formed after July's controversial hearing. Council members voted in favor of a few more restrictions before adopting the final amendment.
City residents are allowed four hens with 32 square feet of living space, the chickens must live in the backyard only and twenty feet setbacks from property lines are required among other restrictions. The final amendment passed 6 to 1.
