In the first of two exhibition games to start the Hoosiers' season, the 15th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers defeated the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees at Assembly Hall, 82-54.
This was the second matchup between the two teams. Ottawa beat Indiana 109-101 in an exhibition game last year that took place in Quebec, Canada.
The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees finished second in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) last season and are ranked first in the CIS to start the 2015-16 season.
Indiana ended last season with a 81-76 defeat to Wichita State University in the Round of 64 of the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers retained four of five starters from last season and begin their 2015-16 campaign with a preseason ranking of 15 from both the Associated Press and USA Today polls.
Indiana was led by sophomore guard James Blackmon Jr., who scored 15 points and added six assists. Freshman center Thomas Bryant added 12 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks in his college debut, while junior forward Troy Williams posted 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, while committing six turnovers.
The Hoosiers take on Bellarmine University on Monday, Nov. 9 in their final exhibition game. On Friday, Nov. 13, Indiana will play Eastern Illinois in the regular season opener. Both games tip-off at 7 p.m. at Assembly Hall.
