Students and community members gathered outside IU Auditorium Thursday morning to protest U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's visit.
The protestors said they wanted to "send a message" to Kerry, especially concerning the recent nuclear deal with Iran.
"I think it's great that John Kerry is coming here spreading his [message] and I think it's great that we have a head of state on campus," said Andrew Ireland, the vice chairman of the IUYAF, which he calls a non-partisan organization. "But I think it's also important to go and be a counter balance, especially being the premier conservative organization on campus, to go and raise some very warranted concerns."
Grassroots Conservatives, Indiana Millennials for Cruz and Monroe County Republican Women joined IUYAF at the protest.
"We're here for advocacy and we're here for education," Ireland said.
Deanne Mechling is a member of the Monroe County Republican Women. She participated in the protest because she said, "it's so important for our country" to protest the nuclear deal.
The group held signs reading "No Nukes," "Stop Kerry," and "Stand With Israel," among others. Fewer than 10 protestors participated.
