Indiana University's men and women basketball teams showed off their skills to a packed crowd at Assembly Hall for "Hoosier Hysteria" Saturday night. The annual free event gave fans a chance to see the players play and showcase the teams' rookies.
Before any players took the court though, The Student Athletic Board hosted a championship game for an intramural 3-on-3 game, and two final teams battled it out on the floor between remixes of popular songs and the school's unofficial anthem, "This Is Indiana".
The IU women's team took the court first, participating in a three point shootout. New head coach Teri Moren talked about her position and highlighted the team's successful previous season.
ESPN anchor and IU alumna Sage Steele sported candy stripe pants while she emceed the event.
"The reason I picked IU was because of Indiana basketball," Steele said. "The point is, to me, Indiana basketball is history and tradition."
Then the men took the court and also did a three point shootout and slam dunk contest.
The men's team then competed in a short scrimmage, and younger players were given a chance to experience gameplay at Assembly Hall in front of a full crowd. Junior guard Yogi Ferrell and forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea's red team came out on top, and the team signed autographs for an hour immediately after the practice game.
The IU men's season starts on November 6 where they play in an exhibition game against Northwood University, while the women take on Gardner-Webb at home on November 15.
