Indiana University will lose an estimated $9 million to $9.5 million in cuts the state announced Thursday.
The state's budget director announced another 2 percent cut from the state's public colleges and universities in response to concerns about lagging tax revenues. That's in addition to the two percent cut Governor Mike Pence announced last year.
Indiana University spokesman Mark Land says the cuts didn't come as a surprise.
"That doesn't mean that we still don't have to obviously figure out how to handle it," he says. "Because we're not going to change out tuition in mid-stream, we aren't going to go back on our promise on the finish in four's for example because those are commitments we've made so still trying to figure out how to make due with a little less."
Land says the cuts will be spread across all the campuses and departments. Land estimates the total loss on the Bloomington campus at $4 million.
