Marsh announced it will close eight stores by the end of the month. Five of the stores are in the Indianapolis area. The company cited a declining customer base as part of the reasoning for the closures.
The move comes after Marsh closed three other Indiana stores in 2011.
The supermarket will still have 78 stores open in Indiana and Ohio.
In a statement, Marsh Supermarkets Inc. said this was the first move to "position Marsh Supermarkets for growth and profitability. Our strategy is to remodel, rebuild and re-banner our properties."
Marsh was purchased by Florida-based Sun Capital Partners in 2006.
The affected stores are located in Muncie, Indianapolis, Franklin, Lebanon and Speedway.
