Beanblossom Bottoms Trail To Close For Improvements

A popular Sycamore Land Trust hiking trail will close for improvements starting next week.

The non-profit will use a $250,000 grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust to pay for renovations at Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve in Monroe County.

The property features a 2.5 mile raised, wooden boardwalk that travels over wetlands.

Starting March 26, workers will start replacing about one-third of the trail with a durable, plastic boardwalk.

Communications Director Abby Henkel says it will make the preserve easier for people to use.

"By using a plastic material that has a nice texture, it's used exactly for things like this," Henkel says. "It means we can use it in more seasons."

The renovations are dependent on weather, so it's unclear how long the preserve will remain closed.
