CBD Legalization Bill Close To Final Approval

A bill that allows anyone in the state to buy or sell cannabidiol, or CBD, is close to final approval in the state legislature.

The House approved SB 52 Tuesday with a vote of 93-0, after the Senate passed a version earlier this month. The proposals now go to a conference committee so lawmakers can reach a consensus before sending it on to Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-Ind.).

Sen. Mike Young's (R-Indianapolis) bill legalizes CBD as a hemp extract and says it must have 0.3 percent or less THC, an ingredient that causes a high.

Passing CBD legislation became a priority for lawmakers after last year's legislation legalizing the substance for some epilepsy patients sparked months of confusion.
