The City of Bloomington is celebrating its Bicentennial with a surge of greenery.
The city began its Bicentennial Community Tree Sale and Sponsorship Program Tuesday.
Residents can buy their own tulip trees for $30 or donate one for a city school or park for $100.
City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Community Relations Manager Julie Ramey says tulip trees were a natural choice.
"So it's Indiana's state tree, it's a really pretty common tree in our area, and we thought it would be a perfect match for our bicentennial."
She says Mayor John Hamilton wanted to do something special that would get residents involved while benefiting the city at the same time.
The program ends April 23, but Ramey says that those who are interested should move quickly as tulip tree supplies are going fast.
The program also features $500, $1600 and $2000 packages for those who wish to give more.
