Daniel Messel will change his not-guilty plea to rape charges in Monroe County at a hearing in April.
Monroe County Judge Marc Kellams originally set a change of plea and sentencing hearing for Monday morning, but on Friday rescheduled the hearing for April 24 at 9:30 a.m.
Messel faces several charges for allegedly raping and beating a woman in 2012 in Bloomington. He filed a motion Thursday to change his previously entered not-guilty plea.
It's unclear whether Messel has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Neither the Monroe County Prosecutor's office nor Messel's Public Defender Patrick Schrems have responded to a request for comment.
According to court records, Judge Kellams has directed the Probation Department to prepare a Pre-Plea Presentence Investigation Report.
Prior to Messel's request to change his plea, a hearing to consider a change of venue request was scheduled for Monday morning.
Messel will be transported to Bloomington for the hearing. He's serving an 80-year sentence at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility for the 2015 murder of IU student Hannah Wilson.
Investigators say a woman contacted police during the murder trial to say she believed Messel was the man who attacked and raped her in 2012. Police then compared DNA evidence collected at the time of the attack to Messel's DNA profile and found a match.
The Brown County prosecutor who worked the case against Messel in the Wilson murder trial says Messel may be responsible for the disappearance of IU student Lauren Spierer in 2011.
Ted Adams said last year that he has long believed Messel could be connected to Spierer's disappearance, and futher believes that Messel could be responsible for four other cases of harassment in Bloomington.
