Vigo County Schools Superintendent Announces Retirement

After serving 20 years as Superintendent of the Vigo County School Corporation, Dr. Danny Tanoos has announced he will retire at the end of the 2018. He made the announcement during the school's monthly school board meeting Monday.

Vigo County School Board President Jacqueline Lower says Tanoos helped turn a $2 million shortfall into a $20 million surplus. But she says he felt he could not stay through the lengthy referendum process that will provide significant renovation to the corporation's high schools.

"A new person needs to come in and grapple with the facts of renovation or remodeling or rebuilding of our high schools," Lower says.

Tanoos will remain in place for the remainder of the academic year and will likely serve as an advisor to his replacement. Lower says an outside search firm has been hired. A replacement will likely be named before Tanoos' last day in July.
