COVID-19 hospitalizations are up across Indiana, and that includes in Monroe County.
Brian Shockney is the IU Health Central Region’s president. He says there’s been a small uptick in hospitalization numbers for both IU Bloomington Hospital and Monroe County Hospital, in the last couple of weeks. But, no additional treatment units have had to open up.
“There is a concern tat we really need to be diligent in wearing our facemasks and doing everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19," he says.
According to the Regenstrief Institute’s dashboard, there has been about one COVID-19 admission to Monroe County hospitals per day since the end of June.
Shockney says that while the increase doesn’t sound like much, it should be considered significant because it’s the first jump in hospitalizations since April.
He says the jump should also be taken in the context that Indiana just saw its highest number of positive COVID-19 cases since early May.
