Chinese Retaliation Tariffs To Have Statewide Impact

The latest tariffs China is imposing on U.S. imports could have a major impact on several Hoosier industries.

Agriculture isn't the only industry across the state that could be impacted.

The newly formed World Trade Center in Indianapolis provides resources to small and medium sized businesses located in the state that hope to take their products and services abroad.

President Doris Anne Sadler, admits the relationship between the U.S. and China is not perfect, but says this type of rhetoric is harmful because it creates volatility.

"We believe that this escalation is exactly what we don't need," Sadler says. "Trade creates a good relationship with our governments, and it's good for everyone when that happens."

While she's unable to put a price tag on what the tariffs will cost Hoosiers, manufacturers like Cummins say they're opposed.

Indiana products that will likely be impacted include aluminum, automobiles, and medications.
