Construction Begins On Bloomington's Switchyard Park

Construction is underway on Bloomington's long-awaited Switchyard Park.

Crews are beginning the two-year process of turning the former railway hub into the city's largest park.

Workers installed a sewer line last year and tore down Wee Willie's restaurant to make way for a main entrance.

Bloomington Communications Director Yael Ksander says Weddle Brothers Construction started clearing downed trees Wednesday to prepare for ground remediation work in a couple weeks.

The 65-acre park will feature a great lawn with a band shell, pavilion, pickelball courts, bocce courts, dog park, skate park and splash pad.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m.
