A former Vigo County Schools administrator convicted in a multi-year kickback schemewill have to begin serving his sentence at the end of the month. That scheme cost the school corporation more than $110,000.
Frank Fennell has requested his self-surrender date be delayed by two weeks, according to court documents. The request says Fennell's daughter was injured playing soccer and needed surgery; the defense says the delay would allow Fennell to "assist in the recovery process."
But a judge on Thursday night denied Fennell's request.
Fennell is facing two years in prison for his role in a kickback scheme involving the Vigo County School Corporation.
Fennell was convicted of nine counts of wire fraud, one count of theft and two counts of lying to investigators after he and co-defendant Frank Shahadey pocketed proceeds from inflated invoices in 2014.
The Vigo County School Corporation has filed a lawsuit to reclaim a portion of the money.
Shahadey is serving a 16-month sentence after pleading guilty.
