Long Awaited Switchyard Brewery Opening In Late May

The owners of Switchyard Brewing say they'll open in the former Jake's Nightclub on North Walnut by the end of next month.

The opening will come more than two years after the brewery announced its plans to launch in Bloomington. Owners originally hoped to build near the B-Line, then announced plans to open in the former Bloomingfoods Elm Heights location. But, the owner of Pictura Gallery bought that building instead. That's when Switchyard's owners decided to renovate and move into the former Jake's location.

Founder and President Kurtis Cummings says they're still working on renovating the space.

He says the finished product will be a place for members of the Bloomington community to collaborate, create and learn.

"We believe that business can be a catalyst for positive change in our community and that's exactly what Switchyard is," says Cummings.

In addition to offering beer, the brewery will open at 8 in the morning and serve as a co-working space.

But, the brewery is no longer to serve its own food. Cummings says they'll instead feature local food trucks.

"Because we're not gonna have food at Switchyard, we're also gonna be dog-friendly," Cummings says. "Folks will be able to come in and drink a beer with their dog, and hang out in the tap room."

Switchyard is hosting a job fair this weekend in preparation for opening.
