A Bloomington nonprofit group is teaming with skateboard sneaker maker Vans to get girls interesting in skateboarding.
An event Thursday featured kids dropping into half-pipes and gliding across a makeshift skate park at the event space The Warehouse.
Nonprofit group Girls Riders Organization works with Girls Inc. of Monroe County to sponsor the event.
Organizer Courtney Payne-Taylor says the goal is to use skateboarding to improve the lives of girls.
"Skateboarding is an activity that has saved so many lives, and changed so many lives in a positive way and we wanted to get girls involved," she says.
Two events are scheduled every Thursday, one for Girls Inc. and one for the public.
