Orange Co. Lawsuit Over Road Construction Could Go To Trial Next Year

A lawsuit Orange County filed against the engineering firm Burgess & Niple in 2016 could go to trial next year. The lawsuit stems from what the county says are construction failures that hampered the completion of a county road to the French Lick Airport.

County Commissioner Don Brewer says a trial is tentatively set for February of next year.

In the meantime, the Indianapolis-based engineering group Michael Baker is taking over the Airport Road project. Brewer says they're preparing for construction to start back up.

"They're doing a slight realignment away from the area that failed twice and they're looking at getting all the environmental documentation and all the survey again, all the core drilling done between now and next spring," Brewer says.

Brewer says the pre-construction portion of the work could wrap up by next July.
