Liz Watson Wins 9th Congressional District Democratic Primary

Liz Watson is the winner in the Democratic primary for Indiana's 9 th Congressional District.

Watson will face incumbent Rep. Trey Hollingsworth in November's general election. She beat out Dan Canon and Robert Chatlos for the Democratic nomination.

Watson says she has focused on holding town halls and meeting with constituents during her campaign, and she's challenging Hollingsworth to do the same.

"I am challenging him right now to have a debate with me in all 13 counties in the district," Watson says. "And I think voters are going to see that there's a very clear choice in November."

Watson wrote public policy in her time as the Labor Policy Director for Democrats in Congress.

Watson calls her campaign a grassroots movement, and says it won't be hard to keep the momentum going.

"Folks are ready for someone who's going to fight for every single one of us, not just the wealthy and the well-connected," Watson says. "And that's what I want to do."

Watson says she plans to continue focusing on health care, public education and solutions to the opioid crisis in her campaign.

Tomorrow we continue the #FightForward & take the battle to our out-of-touch “Congressman” Joseph Albert Hollingsworth III. While we didn’t win the primary, the doors you knocked, the calls you made & the voters you registered will forever shift Indiana toward a better future. /2 — Canon For Indiana (@CanonForIndiana) May 9, 2018
