Terre Haute is commemorating the lives of nearly 7,000 soldiers lost in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A roughly one-mile trail in the city's Veterans Memorial Park is lined with American flags planted about 18 inches apart.
James Hicks is a former Marine. He says the memorial is a sobering reminder of the lives lost in foreign conflicts.
"We've become so desensitized to the Iraq and Afghanistan conflict to realize that we've lost over 7,000 people there," Hicks says.
The memorial is titled "Run for the Fallen" and includes a temporary wall listing the names of each of the victims.
