Tips For Driving Into Bloomington On Graduation Weekend

Indiana University Bloomington students will celebrate completing their degrees this weekend.

The university-wide Commencements are set for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, but schools, departments and programs will hold more than 100 recognition ceremonies.

Thousands of people will pour into Bloomington for the events. Here are some tips for surviving one of the busiest weekends of the year.

Ceremonies

Graduate Commencement: Friday at 3 p.m., Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall

Undergraduate Commencement: Saturday at 10 a.m., Memorial Stadium

Getting to Bloomington

The most direct route from Indianapolis to Bloomington is on State Road 37, but ongoing work to complete Interstate 69 will cause significant delays.

Between Martinsville and Bloomington, SR-37 will have just one lane open this weekend.

Here are three alternate routes to make it to Commencement on time:

 

Parking

Parking at Memorial Stadium and Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall will be free on Friday and Saturday, but reserved for people attending Commencement.
