Indiana University Police say they responded to one loud party Saturday during the day that was in violation of local ordinances on gatherings, and hosts of the party have been referred to the Dean of Students Office.
Throughout the evening, following the IU Penn State football game, IUPD responded to 10 loud party calls that did not violate local gathering rules.
IUPD says after the game, a large crowd gathered on the west side of the stadium, but dispersed after 20 minutes without issue.
IU spokesperson Chuck Carney says the crowd that gathered on the side of the stadium is estimated to be around 100 people.
“I’d emphasize that it was a small fraction of our student body, and it’s certainly not something where they were as distant as we would like.”
Indiana University’s student conduct office says they are aware of violations of university rules meant to prevent spread of COVID-19 that occurred over the weekend and they will be responding accordingly through the Code of Conduct and Student Commitment forms.
The Bloomington Office of the Mayor expressed concern of crowding in Bloomington and on IU’s campus before, during, and after the game Saturday saying these are the types of super spreader-situations the city has avoided in an effort to lower the local positivity rate.
