Indiana Sen. Todd Young on Sundauy urged this colleagues to confirm Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court.
During a speech on the Senate floor Sunday, Young said that after meeting with Barrett earlier this month, he’s confident that she will apply the law as it is, not how she sees it.
“A brilliant legal scholar, Judge Barrett was, and is, held in the highest regard by her peers in the legal world. Judge Barrett’s qualifications outshone personal attacks and religious bigotry, and she was confirmed by a bipartisan majority to the U.S Court of Appeals for the 7 th Circuit,” Young said.
He noted that his former colleague, Indiana Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly voted to confirm Barrett to the 7 th circuit in 2017.
“Three years ago, I did not hear a single credible criticism of Judge Barrett based on her legal qualifications. I have not heard one at any time throughout this confirmation process either,” Young added.
Democrats and even some Republicans have criticized the process in which President Trump nominated Judge Barrett, with her confirmation vote occurring one week before the presidential election.
On Sunday, the Senate voted to invoke cloture, ending debate on Judge Barrett’s nomination. An official vote on her confirmation will take place Monday evening.
